Benefits of Acupuncture

Many people suffer from lower back pain. The reasons for your back pain can vary – damage may have been done by years of poor posture, an old sports injury, or just the aging process itself. The most important part of having lower back pain is getting the proper relief. Unity Chiropractic and Wellness Center in Beaverton, OR specializes in techniques to help return you to wellness.

Acupuncture for Lower Back Pain

When you think about a chiropractor and lower back pain, you typically think of spinal adjustments. While we do offer that service, we also offer acupuncture as a way of easing lower back pain.

Acupuncture is a traditional medicine procedure that the Chinese have used for over 2,500 years. Acupuncture focuses on certain qi (pronounced “chee”) points in the body’s energy flow channel called meridian.

Acupuncture is a safe, painless way to treat lower back pain. Needles are smaller than you are used to at a doctor’s office. You may feel a slight tingling or dull ache when the needle is inserted. You may also see a small dot of blood, but that is perfectly normal.

You should wear loose clothing such as shorts and a tank top, if possible, because the chiropractor may need to access different qi points on your arms, legs, feet, hands, and forehead.

How Long Is An Acupuncture Session?

The entire session with our chiropractor can last 20 to 40 minutes. Needles are left in place between 5 and 30 minutes, depending on the amount of blockage to your qi. You may feel immediate relief from back pain, but in some cases, it may take slightly longer.

Acupuncture treatment is so mild that you can receive a massage and/or spinal adjustment during the same visit to take a three-pronged approach to lower back pain. You may find that acupuncture treatments also offer relief from things like arthritis and headaches while helping reduce stress and offering a better night’s sleep.
