Chiropractic Adjustments

Don’t be nervous about your first chiropractic adjustment visit. You’re in good hands at Unity Chiropractic and Wellness Center. Our team genuinely cares about your health and well-being. If you have an injury or pain, we want to figure out what is wrong and how to help you. Our treatments are designed to restore motion and give you better flexibility.

What To Expect

Your first visit will last about an hour. Here’s what you can expect:

  • History and Symptoms: We’ll obtain a detailed medical history and ask you about your current symptoms, pre-existing conditions and prior injuries.
  • The Chiropractic Exam: We’ll first explain how chiropractic care helps with range of motion injuries, head, neck and spine conditions and even soft tissue problems. We’ll perform the non-invasive chiropractic exam to assess your current range of motion and muscle strength, and then we will perform the chiropractic adjustment, which is a manual manipulation of the spinal vertebrae. We do these movements to improve your range of motion and function and to reduce nerve irritation which is causing you pain.
  • Diagnostic Tests: We might need to do or order other diagnostic tests like x-rays, MRI or lab tests.
  • Other Treatments: We offer other treatments like massage therapy and myofascial therapy for soft tissue problems involving muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Many of these hands-on therapies are designed to break up scar tissue and improve blood flow and tissue elasticity. We may even recommend specific stretches for improved flexibility and strengthening exercises to improve stability.

How We Diagnose

We’ll take all the findings from this first visit and determine a diagnosis and treatment plan. Note that your medical history is important, so please bring that with you and be prepared to discuss it with us. If you have previous imaging, bring those to us or let us know how to obtain the records. We’ll discuss your diagnosis with you in detail and design an optimum plan that might include one or more of the above techniques.

We use the “triage concept” to diagnose problems. Potentially serious conditions might involve a fracture or major nerve damage. Examples of less serious conditions are herniated discs or pinched nerves, or a simple spinal misalignment. Rarely, we see patients that can’t be helped by chiropractic care.
